I don’t know about ya’ll, but I’m thrilled that autumn is right around the corner. It’s next week you know. Sean’s birthday is actually on the autumnal equinox.
In our neck of the woods it cooled off a little recently. This has me very excited. It’s been hot for so long. Cooler temps are a welcome change. We recently had two evenings of an overnight low of 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Sean asked if we could have a fire after walking home from the bus stop in the morning. Yes, I have some Southern wimps!!
We were also able to finally eat outside again. Most people enjoy meals outdoors all summer long. Here in the South we stay in the air conditioning and wait for September to roll around to eat out again. We had a wonderful meal of rogan josh with homemade naan to celebrate Josh’s birthday. The boys actually came inside to put long sleeves on before we cut the cheesecake. Like I said, weather wimps!
You may have noticed by now I am excited about our cooler weather. With cool evenings come warm drinks. A family favorite for years has been hot chocolate with Bailey’s Irish cream, at Thanksgiving we make a big teapot of it for all the cousins.
I like to experiment though. There are so many other liquors that go well with hot chocolate. This is my newest version for the season. Banana, cinnamon and chocolate. Need I really say anything else?! It’s a flavor combination to die for. Snuggle up and enjoy.
Banana Cinnamon Hot Chocolate
1 c. milk
2 Tbs. chocolate syrup (try my homemade version)
1 1/2 oz. banana liqueur
1/2 oz. cinnamon liqueur (Fireball cinnamon whiskey, cinnamon schnapps etc.)
Heat the milk and stir in everything else. Serve in a mug and garnish as desired (whipped cream, grated chocolate, chocolate syrup, chocolate sprinkles, cocoa powder, banana chips…let your imagination run wild)!
Yields: 1 serving
Yummy! I’m so excited for the cooler weather too….it’s been such a hot summer! This is a perfect drink to usher fall in 🙂
I just wish fall weather would come and STAY! In the meantime I’ll enjoy a warm drink when I can.
Oh Banana and Chocolate I love it!!!! 🙂
You really can’t go wrong with banana and chocolate can you?!
Somehow Ontario hasn’t been too hot the last two summers. That means low gas bills and less air conditioning. I am sitting by the French doors right now and I’m just closing them coz it’s rather chilly. This hot chocolate sounds so good. I don’t have any liqueurs at the moment but I hope to try one of your drinks the next time I visit the wine store. Thanks for sharing!
I am in need of a trip to the liquor store as well. Josh is out of his beloved St. Germaine! I could use one of these hot chocolates as it begins to cool off again and rain.
I am still thinking of the chocolate truffle cream liqueur. It sounds amazing!
This sounds wonderful! We’re about to get several days of rain over here, and this sounds like a perfect treat for a rainy day!
It would definitely be nice on a cool rainy day. We just had a lot of rain and it looks like it is coming back, time for another drink!
