I don’t know about ya’ll, but I’m thrilled that autumn is right around the corner. It’s next week you know. Sean’s birthday is actually on the autumnal equinox.
In our neck of the woods it cooled off a little recently. This has me very excited. It’s been hot for so long. Cooler temps are a welcome change. We recently had two evenings of an overnight low of 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Sean asked if we could have a fire after walking home from the bus stop in the morning. Yes, I have some Southern wimps!!
We were also able to finally eat outside again. Most people enjoy meals outdoors all summer long. Here in the South we stay in the air conditioning and wait for September to roll around to eat out again. We had a wonderful meal of rogan josh with homemade naan to celebrate Josh’s birthday. The boys actually came inside to put long sleeves on before we cut the cheesecake. Like I said, weather wimps!
The boys and I watched an episode of Giada in Italy over the weekend and were inspired. She shared a recipe for a ricotta toast her grandfather used to make her for breakfast growing up. My boys thought it looked good and immediately asked if we could make it.
Of course I wasn’t about to deny my boys a chance to experiment in the kitchen! I’ve made desserts with ricotta and put it on savory toast so the idea of a sweet ricotta toast was fun.
I might have a small addiction to hot chocolate. Nothing too horrific, just a nice hot mug in the morning. It’s a good source of calcium, right? All right, the sugar isn’t exactly super healthy. That’s why I quit for a while. The heat of the summer may have also had something to do with it.
A couple years ago I started making my own chocolate syrup. After all if I was going to drink something daily it would be nice to know what is in it and be able to customize my drinks. This is something incredibly easy to make. What took me so long to do it?!
How did it get to be September so quickly?! While I’m glad the kids are finally all in school it seems life is still crazy. Josh has been working extremely long hours lately and usually on Sunday too so the end of summer was crazy being stuck with the kids all the time. Needless to say we’ve all been tired and I’m still living in a bit of a fog.
A new month brings another In My Kitchen post. Thanks to Celia over at Fig Jam and Lime Cordial for hosting this monthly event. As I said it’s been a hectic month but we’ve had a bit of fun along the way.
