Smoked Gouda Crab Mac & Cheese

I am not sure how it happened, but it seems that up until now there has been a misrepresentation of our eating habits on this blog. Our middle son, Ewan, is a mac and cheese fanatic. Yet somehow I have never posted a mac and cheese recipe, how is that possible?! Trust me, we make our share of mac and cheese in this house.

It also happens to be the case that I rarely make the same mac and cheese. I experiment with different cheeses or use all kinds of add ins. I like to toss lots of goodies into the mac and cheese so I can have a full meal in the one dish. So today I bring you a recipe for mac and cheese with crab and broccoli, in honor of Ewan, my crab loving mac and cheese boy!

RumChata Tea

RumChata Tea
I had every intention of posting some delicious recipes this week, especially some vegetables given our chocolate indulgences last week. Then this bloody cold weather came. Priorities shifted and now keeping warm is more important!

This beverage is so simple it really doesn’t require a recipe, but I thought I would share it with ya’ll anyway. I have been a tea drinker my entire life, raised by a mother who served us tea with cream and sugar. Feel sick, hot tea and cinnamon toast it is. The winter means even more hot tea.

Dark Chocolate Pear & Toffee Truffles

Dark Chocolate Pear and Toffee Truffles
For some time now I’ve had a little shopping addiction at Whole Foods. Every time I go there I must get a bar of the pear and almond dark chocolate. It is simply my favorite flavor combination they have, not that there aren’t other good ones.

I recently got a bottle of pear liqueur just so I could make some pear and almond truffles. I was set to go, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Then I realized I used all my almonds to make the dark chocolate orange almonds. No problem, I’ll get more almonds. Oh wait, there is a problem.

Dark Chocolate Orange Almonds

Dark Chocolate Orange Almonds
It’s Valentine’s week and that means lots of chocolate. This makes Sean very happy, my chocolate monster! We started out our chocolate adventures on the healthy side with these dark chocolate covered almonds.

Almonds are a healthy fat, dark chocolate is good for your heart. How could you possibly go wrong?! All right, portion control may be a problem for some of you so be very careful. Or just indulge, life is too short to deny yourself something you love. I will be portioning these out to Sean though or he would eat them all! Continue reading

In My Kitchen – February 2015

It seems another month has come and gone, where does the time go? It was another busy month in our kitchen. We missed our kitchen dearly when we were out of town for a family funeral, I do so dislike eating out for every meal while away from home.

This past month I bought The New Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day for my Kindle app on the iPad. Needless to say we’ve been enjoying the results. The boys are especially loving the brioche bread. The first photo is Bostock made from a brioche loaf. The second photo is of brioche rolls with mini chocolate chips. I may have created monsters, the boys want brioche all the time now!
