In My Kitchen – November 2016

It’s been another crazy month.  I don’t know if it’s just having fall birthdays, Halloween, the cooler weather or what…but autumn is always very busy for us.  This month wasn’t any different.

In the beginning of the month we had my parents visiting.  They came to watch the boys while Josh and I went to Charlotte for the night and then come home and celebrate Jack’s birthday a little early.  Things changed when Hurricane Matthew came to town.  Our night out was cancelled, but we certainly still celebrated Jack’s birthday.

We didn’t suffer any major damage from the hurricane since we are well inland.  Just some heavy rain and high winds at times.  We had a plum tree uprooted which we managed to get up again and staked it do the ground, fingers crossed it stays up and healthy.  The power flickered a few times and went out while I had pumpkin muffins in the oven.  We finished breakfast by candle light.

In My Kitchen – October 2016

Wow, another month has passed and I’m caught with few pictures to share.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s been a busy month with two birthdays.  I’ll have to settle and use some phone pictures.  Maybe this month I’ll have the time to take actual pictures {note to self}!

We have a lovely new hostess for In My Kitchen.  Please welcome Liz over at Bizzy Lizzy’s Good Things.  She has a running list with links to everyone posting for this month’s In My Kitchen link up.

The month started with a trip to the mountains.  This is my favorite time of year, the weather cools a little and there is so much yummy fresh produce.  We went on our annual (sometimes a couple times a year) apple picking trip to Sky Top Orchard.  This time of the season the galas, jonagolds and golden delicious were ripe.  We picked a half bushel of each.

In My Kitchen – September 2016

What a crazy month it has been.  Once again time has flown by so quickly, I can’t believe it is already the beginning of another month.  That brings us to another In My Kitchen post, with Maureen over at Orgasmic Chef hosting this monthly roundup as she continues to heal from back surgery.

In our house August was all about back to school.  Okay, maybe it was more exciting for me than the kids!  This year was our second annual trip to the mountains the last weekend before school starts.  We stayed with Oma and Opa and also went camping for one night.

So in our outdoor kitchen we made grits with smoked sausage, zucchini and onions.  It’s always a challenge coming up with a dinner to cook over a camp stove that will handle being packed in a backpack and staying there for over six hours while we hike and setup camp.  We stepped up our game this time by also packing a box of wine, best thing invented ever (so maybe that’s an exaggeration, but boy did it make the trip better).

In My Kitchen – August 2016

The In My Kitchen series is on summer hiatus while our host Maureen recovers from surgery.  I thought it would be nice to go ahead and post anyway, especially since I have some loot from our trip to Europe.

I’ve lived in both Austria and Germany several times over the years so I already knew the food and culture very well.  In my mind I had ideas of what I wanted to buy to bring home as well as things I wanted to eat while there.  Needless to say I didn’t get to it all, especially with our crazy schedule.

I did get the tea spoons and cake forks though.  I have a couple sets of silver spoons and forks I’ve gotten at flea markets in Paris and London over the years.  This time I wanted something more every day and these ones from WMF are perfect.  The boys are awaiting their first proper afternoon tea (though we’ve used the spoons for ice cream several times and forks for cake after dinner)!

In My Kitchen – June 2016

With the end of the school year only two half days away time is flying quicker than I’m willing to admit. The boys will be with me ALL THE TIME in a matter of days. How shall I ever survive the summer?! We had a preschool graduation last week and today I had two elementary school awards programs. Then I looked at the calendar and noticed it’s June! Could we please slow down time.

Seeing as how it is a new month it’s time for another In My Kitchen post. Swing on by Orgasmic Chef to find links to everyone else posting for this monthly roundup. It’s always fun to sneak a look into other people’s kitchens!

Last month was a whirlwind of a month.  Of course so much of the mad baking and cooking sessions didn’t even get photographed.  Life gets in the way of keeping up with snapping pictures.  Here are a few things I did manage to capture the past month.

For Mother’s Day I got this wonderful hammered copper tray.  It’s great for carrying cocktails to the porch.  Of course it’s getting too hot for that.  So it’s also ideal for holding candles on the dining room table.  Or vases of flowers.  Or maybe I’ll finally get the boys trained to bring me breakfast in bed!
