In My Kitchen – April 2017

It was another busy month at our house so let’s just jump right in. I was home alone two weekends when the guys all went camping with the Cub Scouts. While the quiet was certainly enjoyable, all the cleaning and organizing wasn’t as fun. It needed to be done though and there was time to play as well.

One of those weekends I tackled our mountain of blood oranges. I zested most of them and made a large batch of arancello. It should be ready just in time for Mother’s Day! I then juiced the oranges and made a blood orange sangria. There was enough juice left to make some mocktails for the boys. The last of the blood oranges were made into a curd.

In My Kitchen – March 2017

I know February is a short month but boy did it ever fly by in the blink of an eye!  It’s already a few days into March and I still don’t believe it.

We had another busy month as usual, though I didn’t manage to capture much as far as photos go.  Here’s what I’ve got in my kitchen this month….

My sweetie got me two gorgeous wooden bowls for Valentine’s Day.  He know the way to my heart!  The first is a huge antique bowl which currently holds all our blood oranges and cara cara oranges.  It sits on the kitchen table which is currently covered with plastic and acting as a greenhouse with all our seedlings (hey, just keeping it real this month)!

In My Kitchen – February 2017

Can you believe it’s already February?!  The time is just flying by despite some of the days dragging.  It was a strange month in our kitchen.  For nearly two weeks I was on a very restricted diet or clear liquids so the cooking and baking was a little slow.  Don’t get me wrong, the guys didn’t starve.  It just wasn’t my most creative work!

In my kitchen this month I started this new meal journal.  I write down what we have for every family dinner, not the recipe, just what we ate.  I also note how well it was received (or not so well in the case of Jack and Sean eating polenta).

In My Kitchen – January 2017

It’s a new year, wow!  Where did the time ever go?!  I look at the boys and they are getting HUGE, I know time has passed but it still surprises me sometimes.  December was a busy month as I’m sure it was for most of you.  Here’s a peek in our kitchen during that madness….

Between various holiday school parties, teacher gifts and a teacher luncheon there was a lot of action in the kitchen.  Here’s a collage  sampling of what happened in our kitchen.

The big picture is Sean and Ewan “decorating” their own pizza on a family pizza night, always a favorite dinner night!  Then from the top right around we have:  Jack decorating some World Peace Cookies from Dorie Greenspan’s Dorie’s Cookies, the decorated World Peace Cookies, a rum cake soaking in the pan overnight for a teacher holiday luncheon, Jack posing with all the teacher gifts the boys took to school and desserts for the teacher luncheon, a veggie plate for Jack’s class holiday party, Jack making eggnog and Ewan rolling gingerbread cookies in sugar.  Wow, that was all done in just two days!!

In My Kitchen – December 2016

It’s December, where on Earth did the time go?  I am nowhere near ready for Christmas and I don’t really care.  What gets done is great, if it doesn’t we will survive.  Every year it seems things get busier so this year amid the chaos we are going to enjoy the time we have.

With another month comes another In My Kitchen post.  This is a wonderful monthly roundup hosted by Liz over at her Good Thing’s blog.  Jump on over there and see what everyone is up to.

November was a whirlwind of a month as always, especially with Ewan’s birthday being two days before Thanksgiving.  The birthday boy was over the moon excited to have cioppino for his birthday dinner.  How many eight year olds do that?!  I made it with mussels, scallops, shrimp and cod.  He also had cupcakes for dessert.  Of the three boys, Ewan is the one that enjoys food the most, as well as eats the most.
