Yesterday was my husband’s 40th birthday. Lucky him, I wasn’t even cruel in the slightest way! And no, it wasn’t because I fear what he will do to me, I already turned 40!
We had a wonderful weekend. We had friends over Saturday night, went out for bagels the morning of his birthday, had tea and birthday cake in the afternoon with my parents, enjoyed cocktails on the porch (it was unusually cool for us) and had a wonderful crab cake dinner.
While I don’t have time to post a recipe with this, I simply had to include pictures of the cake. Josh requested red velvet with a cream cheese icing. Jack is the one who helped with the “decorating”. We originally talked about putting their skeleton Lego man on the top for a poke at how old Daddy is, but Jack changed his mind and put an alien toy on top instead. Sometimes I wonder what goes through his mind!
Congratulation’s to your husband! Red Velvet cake is so delicious, especially the cream cheese icing! Looks delicious Gretchen I am sure he and the kids enjoyed it. He is lucky to have you bake for him!! 🙂
We were all lucky to have homemade red velvet! It is definitely a favorite. I usually make it with the tradition cooked icing but hubby wanted the Southern version with cream cheese icing. Either way, it is yummy!
Wow amazing cake…happy birthday to your husband…the alien looks too good..I like his idea 🙂
Thanks! This is what happens when you let kids help decorate. Luckily it was just an alien, not tons of sprinkles, sugar and extra frosting!
Happy birthday to your husband. I love the cake, but most of all the alien toy.
The silent did make it extra special! Thanks!
Happy Birthday to your Hubby Gretchen!! I had Red Velvet too 🙂 on Friday 🙂
Thanks! Must be red velvet season! I actually like it for Christmas with green frosting.
that’s great! and lol, at first glance I thought the alien head (which I LOVE, btw) was a tangle of sugared lime zest. So glad if your husband had a lovely 40th.
Too funny about the aliens, definitely not enough time here to sculpt lime zest. He had a wonderful 40th and yesterday the littlest guy had a great 4th birthday!
Isn’t it great to turn 40, not so young, not so old, but somewhere in the middle. My son would love that alien too. It’s the era for aliens. The green goes well with the red velvet. I hope your husband enjoyed his birthday. Belated Birthday Greetings to him. I am trying to catch up and clear the backlogged messages. Have a wonderful week and best wishes to your family!!!
Thanks! Aren’t we always catching up?! Yesterday was the littlest guy’s birthday and I am still catching up. I managed to find my kitchen counters today!!
