This morning I made my first loaf of sourdough using Scarlett, daughter of Priscilla. Thanks to Celia for sending the starter, I think we are going to be having lots of fun with this!!
Once Sean saw the camera come out he insisted on being in some of the pictures! Of course if it meant eating bread he definitely wanted some of that!! He helped me eat the first piece, my personal favorite. Give me an end piece with lots of crust and life is very good.
He also enjoyed a ham sandwich for lunch.
Overall I’m pleased with my first loaf of sourdough. I still have plenty to learn and practice, but I’m fine with that. The family is more than fine to eat all the loaves in the meantime until I master it!
What a great result!!
Thanks so much! I look forward to even better results as time goes by and I get more practice.
that looks dreamy, Gretchen! Congratulations on your culinary success 🙂
Thanks Liz! I just ordered some fine semolina for improving the crust. I’ll be baking again bright and early tomorrow morning so I can pack sandwiches for the boys as we will be gone all day. Needless to say the boys enjoyed the bread, Ewan asked if we could have it every day in March!
Oooh, you’ll be addicted now! Looks great indeed.
I can see the addiction! I just got another batch ready to bake bright and early tomorrow morning.
Just beautiful Gretchen!!! 🙂
Thanks Amy! Just started getting another round ready to bake two loaves bright and early tomorrow morning!
Congratulations on learning to make your own bread. It looks like your first loaf has turned out extremely well. I’m sure the experimenting with bread-making will be lots of fun – for everyone in the family xx
We are enjoying the sourdough quite a bit. Such a different experience than yeast breads.
What an amazing first loaf!
Thank you! We enjoyed it!
With three boys a sourdough starter couldn’t be better, Looks like a prize winner
It is definitely coming in handy!
It’s a beautiful loaf – and apparently party of a royal dynasty. What a perfect crumb. I can see why Sean is so excited for his ham sandwich (and the photo op!). Lucky boy! Yum! Sourdough is arguably the best bread ever, particular infused with rosemary and dipped in EVOO.
Thanks Shanna! We are all enjoying the homemade sourdough! It is one of the best breads over. You’re right, I love it with some rosemary and sea salt, yum.
Gretchen, that’s fantastic! I’m sorry I’m so late to responding – I was offline last month. What a glorious result for your first loaf! And how cute is Sean! 🙂
And doesn’t Sean know how cute he is?! I wish I had sound bites of some of the things he says randomly. You would roll on the floor laughing when he gives me cooking or baking instructions. Clearly he watches me often, along with a lot of cooking shows on television!
