Picnic Time

It has been crazy busy lately. I finally finished preserving all my pears, thank goodness. While I have still managed to cook and even bake it has been too busy to take pictures. So today I present to you a family favorite, picnic time.

Now that the weather cooled off and it isn’t too hot outside anymore we enjoy eating on the porch. Picnics are always good inside too, we call them carpet picnics! Even better if you wait til the kids go to bed and enjoy some adult time. Our favorites are simple: a variety of cheeses, salami, grapes, apples, crackers, fresh bread…. The possibilities are endless. Of course cocktails or wine for the adults, kiddie cocktails for the kids. Sean and Ewan recently discovered a love for pâté too!

These are leftover meatballs from dinner the night before. They make a perfect appetizer! The recipe is great, check out these meatballs in coconut curry sauce at My Favourite Pastime. I made them with lamb and the sauce was superb. Should you have any left, put a stick on them and you have an instant appetizer!

The boys enjoyed the last of the watermelons from the garden. They never got any bigger, but yet somehow this personal size was perfect. They loved them!

After all the food and drink it was time for a bonfire!

Sounds yummy! You know my monster boys, growing way too fast. Jack still towers over everyone his age. Wish our food sale laws were looser here too. Glad you’re having a good time, but we miss you!

Thank you for making and advertising the meatballs. You’ve made my day. I have just come back form practice. Thursday evenings are hectic with these late practices. You have a lot of energy. I am always so impressed because you’re able to do so many things and still cook and look after the family. I hope you enjoyed the picnic. The pictures look great. This year we never really had full summer here and now it’s gonna be raining till Tuesday…It’s even raining now. Enjoy your weekend and Xoxo to the kids.

We always get summer here in the South, just a matter of how harsh the heat is and how wet. It is now cooling off a little more, but I hope to get a couple more picnics in! We have our lazy days too, life just gets hectic. I did just wise up and make a huge batch of marinara sauce and freeze it so I wouldn’t have to make it so often….ok, I also did it because I needed 6 large cans for the birthday party and the crushed tomato cans were perfect! Like I said, crazy here sometimes! Enjoy your weekend, even if it is wet.

Looks like you all enjoyed a great picnic and a god bonfire is the only way to end one. How perfect were those watermelons? Easily handled by your boys, they’d make a great cocktail for the adults if a bit of vodka was poured into each half. 🙂
