In My Kitchen – October 2015

It’s another month and time for a peek in my kitchen. I thought September was busy with both Josh and Sean having birthdays plus school, scout and swim schedules to contend with. We also had a water line break in the neighborhood resulting in mandatory water boil for drinking and cooking.

Then October started off rainy and dreary and I was unable to blog much since lighting for photographs was horrific. And then the Columbia Flood happened. October is off to a mad start and I’m feeling very fortunate with our situation. Homes, belongings, cars, power, running water and lives have been lost in our beloved home town. We are extremely lucky to have very little damage.

While I may complain about being cooped up in the house another day with three very active boys, I’m glad we are all safe and sound. Josh made it to work late this morning with one road closure detour. It is going to take a long time for the city to recover, but life is going on somewhat normal for us.

So thanks to Celia at Fig Jam and Lime Cordial for hosting this monthly event. It’s nice to have some normalcy in life right now!

In My Kitchen – September 2015

How did it get to be September so quickly?! While I’m glad the kids are finally all in school it seems life is still crazy. Josh has been working extremely long hours lately and usually on Sunday too so the end of summer was crazy being stuck with the kids all the time. Needless to say we’ve all been tired and I’m still living in a bit of a fog.

A new month brings another In My Kitchen post. Thanks to Celia over at Fig Jam and Lime Cordial for hosting this monthly event. As I said it’s been a hectic month but we’ve had a bit of fun along the way.

Pumpkin Scones with Cinnamon Maple Butter

Pumpkin Scones with Cinnamon Maple Butter

It’s time for International Scone Week once again. Last year was my first time participating and I am excited to bring you another scone recipe this year. International scone week is the second week in August. The lovely Celia is one of the co-founders. This year Tandy at Lavender and Lime is hosting the annual event so please click on the link and check out all the other wonderful scone recipes being posted this week.

I had grand plans of developing a recipe for my favorite scone at Bracken Mountain Bakery but life got in the way as usual. Every time we go up to the mountains the bakery is on the must visit list, several times if the boys have it their way! They make a great chocolate banana scone which I always intend to make at home and never get around to.

In My Kitchen – August 2015

Another month has come and gone. I’m very excited about it being August, it means the boys start school soon!! Yeah me!! I may get my sanity back yet. If nothing else I’ll at least be able to enjoy the silence for a short while. Sean will be in preschool for the first time and only gone mornings, but that alone is enough time away from him to get more done. Plus he talks ALL THE TIME, I look forward to it being a little more quiet.

So with another month under our belts it’s time for an In My Kitchen post. Our gracious host Celia at Fig Jam and Lime Cordial is busy with family so instead of clicking on the usual links in the sidebar look for everyone’s links in the comments section of her post.

Last month I forgot a few things for my In My Kitchen post so I’ll get them in this month. My parents moved up to their newly renovated mountain house full time in June. This means they downsized TREMENDOUSLY, thus resulting in my getting first pick of everything they were getting rid of. Among those goodies are this handmade cup and saucer set, a Limoges set (actually two sets as my set was somehow still at their house…Mom and I got them at a flea market in Paris years ago), and these lovely tartelette pans. We already used them for fruit tarts Father’s Day.

In My Kitchen – June 2015

Another month has flown by and it’s time for an In My Kitchen post. Thanks to Celia over at Fig Jam and Lime Cordial for hosting this awesome monthly event.

In My kitchen this month we had strawberries. LOTS!  We picked four gallons the first weekend in May and besides shoving them in our mouths I made strawberry vanilla jam and strawberry sauce. Not pictured is another strawberry jam sweetened with honey and flavored with thyme.
