Tahini Salad Dressing

Tahini Salad Dressing

I always intend to make my own salad dressings. Then when I need it I never seem to find the time so that means either a super simple vinaigrette or something store bought. Why is that? It’s time to shake things up and get out of my rut.

In an effort to break away from classic vinaigrette and cream dressings I decided to go the tahini route. This is a dressing I like when I have it in restaurants but for some reason never bother to make. It’s incredibly simple so I really have no excuse. Continue reading

Honey Mustard Cranberry Sauce

Honey Mustard Cranberry Sauce

One of the great Thanksgiving dinner debates is cranberry jelly or cranberry sauce? Whole berries or puréed? Which do you prefer? For me, the answer is neither. I couldn’t care less if there was anything cranberry for dinner. Cranberry dessert, sure that’s great. Dinner, not so much.

So in an effort to come up with something cranberry for the meal that I was actually going to eat I went the mustard route. Josh and I are condiment lovers and I have seen and had all kinds of mustards, cranberry being one of them.

Garlic Parmesan Popcorn

Garlic Parmesan Popcorn

The other day Sean noticed something on the counter. It went like this….
SEAN: Why is the popcorn bowl out Mommy?
ME: Because Daddy had popcorn?
SEAN: When did Daddy have popcorn?
ME: After you went to bed last night.
SEAN: That’s not fair. Why don’t we get any?

You can guess that I’ll never win this little discussion. Especially since Sean thinks he is always right! To avoid discussing this all day with him I let him know that the boys could have popcorn after school if everyone behaved.

Well Jack and Ewan got home from school and started homework immediately since it was a swim practice day. They had some fruit and nuts while they worked. Then Jack had a major meltdown over his spelling homework.

Maple Bourbon Onion Jam

Maple Bourbon Onion Jam
Over the weekend I finally got around to making homemade hamburger buns thanks to an excellent recipe from Celia. What better way to enjoy delicious homemade buns than to take the burgers up a notch.

I got to thinking and decided I wanted to finally made onion jam. I’ve had it in restaurants and enjoyed it. I knew the boys would like it, hello, they LOVE any kind of jam!! So that was my mission then, to create an onion jam for our burgers that everyone would enjoy.

It really wasn’t that difficult. While there are so many ways to make an onion jam, I tend to believe that most versions taste good. It’s a matter of personal taste and what you have in the pantry.

Pumpkin Butterscotch Pudding

Pumpkin Butterscotch Pudding

Halloween may be over but it is definitely still pumpkin season! I need to get more pumpkins to roast, purée and freeze for my stash before the season is over.

This little treat is the perfect autumn sweet. It is quick and easy to make so in my book that is just awesome! Then of course it can be packed in glass or stainless steel containers for a school treat. The boys beg for pudding cups which I refuse to buy, this homemade version though is perfect.
