We are now in our second week of summer break and I kind of sort of have a routine going. It still doesn’t allow much time for recipe testing or blogging, but I had to squeeze this recipe in.
Last week I made this hazelnut roll cake for a cookbook challenge on Instagram. It was so delicious I thought I’d share it.
The original recipe is for a walnut roll so already you can tell I made a couple changes!! I personally can’t stand walnuts so switched those out for hazelnuts. Obviously you can use whatever nut you like.
As I mentioned before I am now a little hooked on gingerbread paired with orange. This is my version of a dessert we had on Thanksgiving at The Biltmore Estate. What better way to say Merry Christmas than with a snow topped chocolate gingerbread bundt cake?
This is my favorite bundt pan for the holidays. It reminds me of a snow topped European building once the powdered sugar is sprinkled on top. It’s so simple and festive.
As mentioned in a previous post we went apple picking in the mountains for Sean’s birthday. We have made many apple goodies and STILL I have lots of apples left! Tomorrow is apple pie day and the rest will be made into apple sauce.
Lately I have been craving some good old German dessert. Back in the day, not that I will age myself with specific dates or numbers, I spent my senior year of high school in Germany. It was a division of labor that worked quite well.

It is made in a loaf pan so the size was right, many other cakes would have given me too many leftovers that I would certainly indulge in! The flavors sounded heavenly, I love coconut and orange. Better yet, it would work for my craving, chocolate and orange. For some reason I have been wanting something chocolate and orange, all I needed to do was add a little chocolate to Liz’s recipe.
