This summer we have been eating quite a bit of watermelon. It is the perfect summer food, eat it really cold and the juices are simply refreshing. We’ve had a very hot summer so you can imagine how often we eat watermelon! So why not make some watermelon juice and have a little fun with it!
We grow watermelons in our garden, but so far this summer all our watermelons have been store bought. Our own melons will be ready soon and the boys are VERY ANXIOUS to try them! We’ve had good luck though and all but one of our bought watermelons has been juicy and delicious. Continue reading
For the past two Sundays we have been blackberry picking. Last weekend I took the boys out early Father’s Day morning and we had great success. I had my eye on some wild blackberry bushes that we always drove by on the way to preschool. I decided early Sunday morning was the best time to pick since these bushes are on a somewhat busy road with several manufacturing facilities, which means work traffic coming and going. Today we have a recipe courtesy of my husband. Over the weekend we had the luxury of living the childless life! My parents took the boys to the mountains for the weekend and we took their dog. They had three boys, we had two dogs. Fair deal?! I think so!
Lately I have been craving some good old German dessert. Back in the day, not that I will age myself with specific dates or numbers, I spent my senior year of high school in Germany. After an unpleasant experience with my first host family I had a wonderful time with my second family. My host mother, Mama, was the baker, my host father, Papa, was the cook. It was a division of labor that worked quite well.
