In My Kitchen – July 2015

Once again it is the beginning of the month and time for another IMK post. Where does all the time go?? Days in the summer drag on since the boys are with me ALL THE TIME, yet in general the summer is whizzing by quickly. Thanks to Celia at Fig Jam and Lime Cordial for hosting this wonderful event.

It has been another busy month in our house. We continue to dine twice a week at swim meets and I am so out of ideas. It is an adventure getting the kids packed up to swim, let alone fixing and packing dinner for everyone! Luckily we only have two evening meets left, I’m counting down until our dinner schedule is back to normal. Better yet, when my sourdough schedule isn’t interrupted. Between the late afternoon practice twice a week and evening meets twice a week I am having to squeeze in my bread whenever I can.

So here is what else is happening in our kitchen this month. Tomatoes, lots of cherry tomatatoes. The cherry tomatoes are the first to come in and they are growing like crazy. I pick them every couple days. Sean and Ewan will eat a couple but otherwise it’s just me. As a result I make roasted sauce with them, I can only eat so many tomatoes (don’t want to repeat my tongue problems from last year eating too many tomatoes)! The orange cherry tomatoes were made into four jars of smoked paprika tomato jam. It’s quite tasty with a kick, thanks to red pepper flakes and cayene pepper. The full size varieties are also starting to ripen. The first BLT of the season was fantastic.

In My Kitchen – June 2015

Another month has flown by and it’s time for an In My Kitchen post. Thanks to Celia over at Fig Jam and Lime Cordial for hosting this awesome monthly event.

In My kitchen this month we had strawberries. LOTS!  We picked four gallons the first weekend in May and besides shoving them in our mouths I made strawberry vanilla jam and strawberry sauce. Not pictured is another strawberry jam sweetened with honey and flavored with thyme.

In My Kitchen – May 2015

As you may have noticed I have not posted much lately. It has been beyond crazy busy here.  I was busy planning our school’s spring carnival and it finally happened last weekend.  As if I wasn’t already stressed, Jack decided to fall and cut himself just as setup for the big event began.  I took him to the school nurse who said he really should go to Doctor’s Care.  The cut was too big for DermaBond so it took three people to hold him down while another put in three stitches.  STRESS!!!  Luckily we made it back before the carnival began and I had an awesome committee and volunteers who set it all up while I was gone.

Then this past week was Teacher’s Appreciation week at school.  We had treats for the whole school staff all week.  One day I baked an Apfelkuchen, Mandelkuchen, and blueberry crumb bars.  Another day I felt like I spent all afternoon cutting watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple and making fruit kebabs.  The last day it was a batch of chocolate chip cookies and double dark chocolate chipotle cookies. In My Kitchen – April 2015

It certainly has been an interesting month in our kitchen this past month. The month began with surgery recovery. Then I had my diverticulitis flare up which meant a restricted diet, leaving me craving my fruits and veggies. Let’s just say there wasn’t much fun cooking going on for a while! Then came spring break and the boys being home, plus we went out of town for several days. Despite that and all our other madness we managed to enjoy ourselves.

In my kitchen we have some new semolina flours. I am using them for my sourdough breads and also in my pizza dough.

In My Kitchen – March 2015

It seems another month has passed. While our kitchen has been pretty quiet lately due to my recent surgery (curious and need a laugh, check this out), we have still had a busy month. Thanks as always go to Celia at Fig Jam and Lime Cordial for hosting such a fun round up of posts.

This month in my kitchen the boys have been showing more curiosity and desire to learn. It began early in the month the boys waking up early and getting ready to prepare breakfast in bed for Mommy and Daddy. They made this adorable list (they are rather obsessed with notebooks right now)!
