Pumpkin Scones with Cinnamon Maple Butter

Pumpkin Scones with Cinnamon Maple Butter

It’s time for International Scone Week once again. Last year was my first time participating and I am excited to bring you another scone recipe this year. International scone week is the second week in August. The lovely Celia is one of the co-founders. This year Tandy at Lavender and Lime is hosting the annual event so please click on the link and check out all the other wonderful scone recipes being posted this week.

I had grand plans of developing a recipe for my favorite scone at Bracken Mountain Bakery but life got in the way as usual. Every time we go up to the mountains the bakery is on the must visit list, several times if the boys have it their way! They make a great chocolate banana scone which I always intend to make at home and never get around to.

Chocolate Banana Yogurt Pops

Chocolate Banana Yogurt Pops
Here in South Carolina August is pretty much the dog days of summer. It’s been hot up until now, but this is the month things really kick into high gear. As in highs in the upper 90s to low 100s with humidity to match. I vividly remember being very pregnant with Jack in August of 2007 which had 14 days of 100 degrees or hotter! Continue reading

In My Kitchen – August 2015

Another month has come and gone. I’m very excited about it being August, it means the boys start school soon!! Yeah me!! I may get my sanity back yet. If nothing else I’ll at least be able to enjoy the silence for a short while. Sean will be in preschool for the first time and only gone mornings, but that alone is enough time away from him to get more done. Plus he talks ALL THE TIME, I look forward to it being a little more quiet.

So with another month under our belts it’s time for an In My Kitchen post. Our gracious host Celia at Fig Jam and Lime Cordial is busy with family so instead of clicking on the usual links in the sidebar look for everyone’s links in the comments section of her post.

Last month I forgot a few things for my In My Kitchen post so I’ll get them in this month. My parents moved up to their newly renovated mountain house full time in June. This means they downsized TREMENDOUSLY, thus resulting in my getting first pick of everything they were getting rid of. Among those goodies are this handmade cup and saucer set, a Limoges set (actually two sets as my set was somehow still at their house…Mom and I got them at a flea market in Paris years ago), and these lovely tartelette pans. We already used them for fruit tarts Father’s Day.

Coconut Lime Blackberry Cornbread Muffins

Coconut Lime Blackberry Cornbread Muffins
To say that these muffins are popular with the kids is putting it mildly! What can I say, I seem to have outdone myself. Frankly, I’m a little surprised.

The boys usually like just about every muffin. Favorites tend to have chocolate chips (orange coconut chocolate chip mini muffins) or peanut butter (peanut butter chocolate chip muffins). More unfrosted cupcake like than muffin like. Yes, they like nearly every muffin. But for their new favorite to be gluten free, I’m shocked! Continue reading

Dulce De Leche

Dulce De Leche
I feel I must begin this post with a warning: this recipe is extremely addictive, just ask my three sons!! First they enjoy a lick of the spoon after I season it a little, then they are asking to have it all the time. Frankly I’m surprised they haven’t gone hunting in the fridge for it.

Not only is it delicious, but this dulce de leche is so incredibly easy to make. How much easier can it get than opening a couple cans of sweetened condensed milk, pouring it into jars and letting the slow cooker do the work? I can’t think of much else that is easier than that! And the end result is completely sublime.
