Petits Pain Au Lait

Petits Pain Au Lait

For some time I’ve enjoyed following Liz over at My Favourite Pastime.  I have made many delicious recipes from her site.  Recently she had these scrumptious looking rolls I simply had to make.  Was it the French name or how good they looked?  I’m not sure, but I’m so glad I made them!

The boys were thrilled I made them as well.  They do so love homemade breads and this was a definite winner.  What isn’t to like, a light and fluffy roll with a sprinkle of sugar in top?!

In My Kitchen – December 2015

Another month flies by and it’s time for an In My Kitchen installment.  Thanks again to the lovely Celia over at Fig Jam and Lime Cordial for hosting this wonderful monthly event.

I suppose I’ll begin with food and beverage items in my kitchen.  First off is this pearl sugar.  I looked around town and couldn’t find any so finally decided to order some.  I got two packages, after all when ordering why not stock up?!  I’ve used it already and you’ll be seeing it  in use here on the blog in a couple days if all goes well.

Honey Mustard Cranberry Sauce

Honey Mustard Cranberry Sauce

One of the great Thanksgiving dinner debates is cranberry jelly or cranberry sauce? Whole berries or puréed? Which do you prefer? For me, the answer is neither. I couldn’t care less if there was anything cranberry for dinner. Cranberry dessert, sure that’s great. Dinner, not so much.

So in an effort to come up with something cranberry for the meal that I was actually going to eat I went the mustard route. Josh and I are condiment lovers and I have seen and had all kinds of mustards, cranberry being one of them.

Garlic Parmesan Popcorn

Garlic Parmesan Popcorn

The other day Sean noticed something on the counter. It went like this….
SEAN: Why is the popcorn bowl out Mommy?
ME: Because Daddy had popcorn?
SEAN: When did Daddy have popcorn?
ME: After you went to bed last night.
SEAN: That’s not fair. Why don’t we get any?

You can guess that I’ll never win this little discussion. Especially since Sean thinks he is always right! To avoid discussing this all day with him I let him know that the boys could have popcorn after school if everyone behaved.

Well Jack and Ewan got home from school and started homework immediately since it was a swim practice day. They had some fruit and nuts while they worked. Then Jack had a major meltdown over his spelling homework.

Homemade Chicken Sausage

Homemade Chicken Sausage

It seems as if the boys are slipping into a breakfast rut. They usually want toast or cereal. While I like that this is easy, it really doesn’t fill them up and fuel them up for the day.

Jack has been known to come home from school saying I didn’t pack enough lunch. What, how much more can I pack?? He barely finishes in his allotted time. Maybe if he had a better breakfast he would stay fuller. As it is now he wants several snacks when he gets home from school. Growth spurt maybe?! All I know is I can’t even fathom the teenage years!

So in an effort to fill the boys up in the morning I decided to make a batch of chicken sausage. I’ve made it in the past and enjoyed it, time to bring it back to the table. With all the news lately about processed and cured meats this is a great alternative to regular sausage, besides obviously being lower in fat.
