
Over the weekend I was at Trader Joe’s and was FINALLY able to find a turkey breast. I have been looking for some time and never seem to be there when a turkey breast is in stock, only the tenderloins. With a family a five a turkey breast is a wonderful thing. We can have it for dinner or slice it up and use it as lunch meat.

Back when I first went to Germany as a 17 year old I remember having gebrannte Mandeln, cinnamon almonds, for the first time. At the time they weren’t common in the United States, these days you see them in malls, tourist sites and other places. I remember my love for them, fresh and warm wrapped in the paper cone. Hazelnut Chocolate Fig Muffins

This week is going to be a little crazy for us since all three boys have swim lessons starting Tuesday. I decided to survive this schedule change it is going to require some planning ahead. Our biggest issues are dinner and breakfast. The boys will be eating their dinner at the gym twice a week while I work out and then they will have swim lessons. As for breakfast, Jack tends to sleep a little later the morning after swim so it will need to be portable to eat while walking to the bus.
Mango Piña Colada Smoothie

Sean and I are usually out most mornings. We drop off Ewan at preschool and then head to the gym. If we are lucky we have time to run an errand before it is time to pick up Ewan. Then there are days when there is just too much to do at home we don’t go out in the morning. Yesterday was one of those days…and Sean got to enjoy this smoothie for his morning snack! German Coffee Cake (Schuttelkuchen)

Lately I have been craving some good old German dessert. Back in the day, not that I will age myself with specific dates or numbers, I spent my senior year of high school in Germany. After an unpleasant experience with my first host family I had a wonderful time with my second family. My host mother, Mama, was the baker, my host father, Papa, was the cook. It was a division of labor that worked quite well.
